LAWRENCEBURG, TENN.— The Lawrence County Chamber announced today that Lawrence County will be participating in a 2020 Census Response Cowbell Challenge against Giles County, with a goal of 75% of community members responding to the 2020 Census on their own by April 30. In 2010, Lawrence County had a response rate of 70%. For 2020, the Lawrence County Chamber has challenged its residents to beat that number. An interactive response rate map on 2020census.gov will allow us to track our progress as we compete against Giles County in a nostalgic Cowbell Competition.
The 2020 Census will count everyone living in the United States as of April 1, 2020. Responses will help shape the future of the community, inform how billions of dollars in federal funding are distributed across the country, and could also affect our congressional representation over the next decade. “We have been pushing the 2020 Census for months and it is finally here,” explained Ryan Egly, President of the Lawrence County Chamber. “The more people that respond early and on their own to the census, then the fewer census takers have to visit your home to count you— so respond right away!”
Residents have the option to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail. Most households have already received invitations to respond. “Every single person counted matters to Lawrence County,” Egly continued. “One of the most common questions we field at the Chamber is, ‘How can I help Lawrence County grow?’ At this time, the answer is easy: Be Counted in the 2020 Census!”
