LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. – The quiet charm and cultural richness of Lawrence County’s Amish community are capturing international attention in the November 2025 edition of National Geographic Traveller (UK). The feature story, titled “Backroads & Buggies” by Zoey Goto with photography by Shell Royster, offers readers a vivid journey into Ethridge, Tennessee—the largest Amish settlement in the American South.
The multi-page spread highlights the unique traditions, foodways, and heritage of the Swartzentruber Amish, who have called Lawrence County home since 1944. From homemade pies, jams, and pickles to handcrafted furniture and leather goods, the article celebrates the Amish community’s enduring way of life and the experiences awaiting visitors.
