LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. – The quiet charm and cultural richness of Lawrence County’s Amish community are capturing international attention in the November 2025 edition of National Geographic Traveller (UK). The feature story, titled “Backroads & Buggies” by Zoey Goto with photography by Shell Royster, offers readers a vivid journey into Ethridge, Tennessee—the largest Amish settlement in the American South.

The multi-page spread highlights the unique traditions, foodways, and heritage of the Swartzentruber Amish, who have called Lawrence County home since 1944. From homemade pies, jams, and pickles to handcrafted furniture and leather goods, the article celebrates the Amish community’s enduring way of life and the experiences awaiting visitors.

“Backroads & Buggies” brings readers along winding country roads, through bustling farmers’ auctions, and into Amish homesteads where hospitality and craftsmanship define everyday life. The story also spotlights experiences such as the Plowboy Produce Auction, Amish Country Wagon Tours, and Yoder’s Homestead Market in nearby Summertown.

“We’re thrilled that National Geographic Traveller has shared this story with the world,” said Ryan Egly, President & CEO of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. “Our Amish community offers an authentic cultural experience that draws visitors from around the globe. This feature reinforces Lawrence County as a must-visit destination in Tennessee.”

Chandler Rose, Lawrence County’s Tourism Representative, added: “From horse-drawn buggies and roadside produce stands to the slower pace of life that so many people crave, this piece captures the spirit of Amish Country. We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to experience it firsthand.”

The printed article is available now, with the digital version set to publish in the coming weeks.
